Ron's Reflections
AN EXCITING RETURN OF A PREVIOUS INHABITANT
In October last year we took advantage of the Nillumbik Council’s funding of post fire property inspection, by Dr Graeme Lorimer, an environmental scientist. He visited us and made an inspection of the important environmental parts of our property. His report only arrived about three months ago.
What really intrigued me was that in a burnt out gully he found a few plants of a tiny grasslike species, Isolesis wakefieldiana, or Tufted Club-rush. He said that the closest previous record of this plant was 36 km away, in 1907.
It would be interesting to know whether members of our group have had their property inspected by Graeme Lorimer and had a similar exciting discovery. Perhaps, we could undertake ongoing monitoring.
